How to Play Live Baccarat: Rules, Bets and Simple Tips
Baccarat is one of the easiest casino games to learn. You only make one choice per hand, and the dealer does the rest.
The goal of baccarat
In baccarat, two hands are dealt: the Player and the Banker. You do not play either hand yourself. Instead you bet on which hand will finish with a total closest to 9, or that the two will tie.
In live baccarat, a real dealer deals real cards on a video stream, and you place your bets on screen during a short betting window.

Card values
| Card | Value |
|---|---|
| Ace | 1 |
| 2 to 9 | Face value |
| 10, J, Q, K | 0 |
Only the last digit of a total counts. A 7 and an 8 make 15, so the hand is worth 5.

The three main bets
- Player: pays 1:1. House edge about 1.24%.
- Banker: pays 1:1 minus a 5% commission (or a reduced payout on a total of 6 in no-commission games). House edge about 1.06%.
- Tie: usually pays 8:1. House edge about 14.4%, which makes it the weakest bet on the table.
Many tables also offer side bets such as Player Pair or Banker Pair. They pay more but carry a much higher house edge.
The third-card rule in simple terms
Each hand starts with two cards. A third card may be drawn automatically according to fixed rules. You never need to decide anything: the dealer follows the rules for you. In short, the Player draws on 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7, and the Banker's draw depends on its own total and the Player's third card. A total of 8 or 9 on the first two cards is a "natural" and ends the hand.
Simple baccarat tips
- The Banker bet has the lowest house edge, so it is the most popular choice.
- Avoid the Tie bet and most side bets if you want your budget to last.
- Scoreboards (roads) show past results, but every hand is independent. Patterns do not predict the next hand.
- Set a session budget and a fixed bet size before you sit down.
Frequently asked questions
Which bet is best in baccarat?
The Banker bet has the lowest house edge, at about 1.06% even after commission. The Player bet is close behind. The Tie bet has a much higher house edge.
Is live baccarat fair?
Live baccarat uses real cards dealt by a real dealer on camera, following fixed drawing rules. Results cannot be predicted from previous hands.
Can I use a strategy to win at baccarat?
No strategy changes the house edge. Betting systems only change how you size your bets. The best approach is to choose low-edge bets and manage your budget.
